Following our recent meeting we thought it might be helpful if we told you about some of the issues discussed.
Speed Watch
Speeding traffic along the A358 has been a concern for a long time. The Police are running a scheme whereby volunteers can be trained to monitor the speed of cars. Speeding cars are reported to the Police who follow this up with a warning letter. Persistent offenders will be reported to the Road Policing Unit who can impose penalties. To run the scheme the village needs at least six volunteers. If you are interested in this please contact the Clerk, Ginny Yandle (632465) as soon as possible.
Emergency Planning
The Council is proposing setting up a list of equipment that people in the village own and might be willing to lend/hire to anyone experiencing a domestic disaster (flood, fire, storm damage etc.). We would like to build up a register of suitable equipment, which will be held by the Clerk. The sort of thing we are looking for includes pumps, de-humidifiers, fans, generators, vacuums, lamps chain saws, tarpaulins, acrow jacks, storage boxes, storage areas etc. etc. Jan Swan (633787) is the lead Councillor for this project so please get in touch with her with any queries or offers.
Bus Shelter
For some time now the Council has been looking at the feasibility of putting in a perspex bus shelter on the Williton bound side of the A358 at the Q8 garage. The Council is looking into accessing any grants but there will be a significant cost to the Council. Although we have decided to spread the burden of cost over two years, it has necessitated an increase in the precept for Council Tax for 2010 - the first increase for two years. The Council would welcome any suggestions of possible sources of funding for the bus shelter.
