Slow the Flow Project

West Somerset's 'Two Valleys - Slow the Flow' Project.

Residents living near the Monksilver and Doniford streams will benefit from the recently launched Two Valleys - Slow the Flow Project which aims to reduce flooding in the catchment by using natual methods such as woodland and wetland creation.  The Environment Agency and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust are delivering the Defra-funded scheme to cut the risk of floodwater surging onto raods and into villages.

Natural flood management is an approach that aims to hold back and slow down the flow of water before it reaches properties and businesses.

Any property or land that drains into either the Monksilver or Doniford stream is eligible for assistance.  Farms can also ask for free soil health advice and reduce soil erosion.

Anyone interested in finding out more, discussing opportunities on their land or the volunteer programme should contact Project Manager, Carina Gaertner, of the Wildfowl and wetlands Trust on 07557 971449 or carina.gaertner@wwt.org.uk.  To learn about natural flood management in England visit www.gov.uk/government/news/schemes-across-the-country-to-receive-15-million-of-natural-flood-management-funding
